3D printing the world
By Kennedy Berk
If you are not excited about 3D printing then you are not thinking big enough. Think of anything you want, a 3D printer can print it. If someone wanted to, they could scan a billion dollar painting and print it. From food to bombs it can be printed. 3D printing goes all the way back to the 1980’s. You will learn how it works and what is 3D printing. Listen in how 3D printing saves lives. Welcome to the 3D printing world.
Back in Time
In this trip we are heading back to the 1980’s. 3D printing can be traced back to 1986 when the Chuck Hull invented the system stereolithography. Stereolithography is a technique to create 3D objects. In time 3D printing has changed though it still uses the same process, stereolithography.
3D printing is exactly what is sounds like, printing 3D object. Someone will design a object. A 3D printer will follow directions. Plastic, metal, and other materials comes out of a tiny nozzle making something layer by layer, till its complete. [b]
Sure you can just design something on your computer, though you can also scan something and print it. Let’s say you really wanted something but couldnt get it. You could just pull out the scaner and take a 3D picture
The creation of a 3D printed object is made using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down so many layers of material until the entire object is created.
Super Cool Facts That Will Blow Your Mind
Because of 3D printing, astronauts can print whatever they need whenever they want it. Robots are actually helping build a city in space all 3D printed.
