*Intro

Well, you’re going to have to read the rest of my report to find out! In this report you will read all kinds of things about LASIK. From what it is to how it works. You will even find out why it is so popular. There is tons of information in here. In fact I bet that you can’t wait for this paragraph to be over so you can read the rest of the report!

*What LASIK is and how it has improved over time

This paragraph is about what LASIK eye surgery is.  LASIK eye surgery is a surgery for people who are sick and tired of glasses (or contacts) so that they will not have to wear them any more. LASIK stands for Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis. I think that LASIK is cool because I have glasses and when I get older I want to have LASIK done on me if my eyes do not change.

This paragraph is about how LASIK has improved over time. According to © 2007 CNET Networks, Inc, “No one wants to return to the doctor to have a surgical procedure repeated because it wasn't done completely or correctly the first time. Yet it is estimated that nearly ten percent of the more than 3 million LASIK procedures performed in the U.S. each year require a second surgery to achieve the desired effect. Today, a new FDA-approved LASIK system has been shown to dramatically reduce these re-treatment rates. The German designed and engineered ALLEGRETTO WAVE(TM) is the first in the Chicago area, and it's available only at Sloane Vision Center”. So I guess that we now have a better system.

This paragraph is about how LASIK works.  For LASIK eye surgery, the doctors carve into the eye to fix the shape of it. LASIK eye surgery is used with a laser. I read in an article by Jeff Tyson that talked about someone who had LASIK done. He said, “The most uncomfortable thing to me was wearing the eye shields. It was like wearing a Lone Ranger mask all day and all night. But all of the discomfort was forgotten the next morning when I woke up and looked around. I could see! I looked over at the digital clock on the night stand and could easily make out the numbers. I turned on the television and enjoyed watching the early morning news. Most importantly, my eyes did not hurt at all. No itchiness, swelling or even unusual dryness. I still used the drops just like Erika had told me to. There was a little redness from the suction device and my eyesight was still a little blurry. Also, I was just a little bit sensitive to light. Dr. Kelly had told me to expect that blurriness and sensitivity for a couple of weeks as my eyes completely healed”.

 *Why it is so popular

Why is LASIK so popular?  I read something in an article by Graves Gilbert Clinic that said, “Seventy-five million people woke up this morning reaching for their eyeglasses or squinting to see without their contact lenses. But more than a million people each year give up this daily struggle and make the decision to have laser vision correction.” Wow! That is a lot of people.
