Hovercrafts and Maglev trains

       Do you know what a Hovercraft and a Maglev train is? Well if you donŐt know what they are then this is the right report for you. This report will tell you what it is, the history, and how it works.

 What it is

This paragraph is about how the military uses Hovercraft. The military uses the hovercraft when the boat cannot go on or it is impossible. Then they use the hovercraft and it can go on almost every thing. It is really cool. They are amazing; they can go very fast and very smooth. They are very big and they can old a lot.

      There is a Giant Military hovercraft transport for China it is very cool.  According to Katzman, Joe Defense Tech reports that China has just ordered 6 "Zubr" hovercraft from Russia's Almaz Shipbuilding. The Zubr Class is the world's largest hovercraft, displacing 555 tonnes. It has over twice the tonnage carrying capacity of the US Navy's LCACs (150 tons to 70 tons); the ability to carry a number of weapons including 140mm rocket pods, 30mm cannon, or air defense missiles; and a cruising range of around 300 nautical miles. Each Zubr can carry 3 main battle tanks, or 10 armored personnel carriers, or 150 troops, or some combination thereof.  http://www.windsofchange.net/archives/009032.php)      Is that awesome or what. It has a lot of guns and can old a bunch of stuff.  They make them very cool with guns and missiles and armor.  This hovercraft is some big. I donŐt even know if I could imagine a hovercraft that big.

        Maglev Train

   This paragraph is about the maglev train.

   The maglev train is a very fast train that people can ride in. It is kind of like a train but it is faster and smoother. The maglev train can go up to 361 mph is that amazing or what.   According to (wikipedia) The seats are blue and comfortable in the Shanghai Maglev.    (www.wikipedia.com)

      Blue seats that is cool. There are a lot of seats in one maglev train. Blue seats are very cool.

     This paragraph is about how much money maglev trains cost

      Maglev trains cost $1.2 billion or more. ONE and a HALF BILLION dollars.  Have you ever had that much money?  Well if you have  had that much then you know how much it really is. If you do not know how much money that is then you times a million times thousand = 1 billion plus ½ of a billion




   History of the hovercraft/maglev train

   This paragraph is about the history of the hovercraft/maglev train.

    According to Mary, Bells the hovercraft was invented by Christopher Cockerell in 1956. Christopher Cockerell's idea was to build a vehicle that would move over the water's surface, floating on a layer of air. This would reduce friction between the water and vehicle. To test his hypothesis, he put one a smaller can inside a larger can and used a hairdryer to blow air into them. (http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blhovercraft.htm) Christopher Cockerell is amazing he was able to have a gre at idea to organize this amazing technology.  They are a lot of money if you want to buy them. They are very cool.

    According to DiscoverHover Both the terrain and the weather affect the speed of a hovercraft. There is less friction on smooth surfaces, such as ice, so a hovercraft is faster on ice than it is, for instance, on dense grass or rough surfaces. A hovercraft operating on water is affected by the roughness of the water - it will travel faster over smooth water than over waves. In addition, a hovercraft will travel faster when traveling downwind than it will when it faces a headwind. Depending upon the terrain and the weather, the average speed of a hovercraft is 35 mph (56 km/h).     That is really fast for a hovercraft. 

     Maglev train

  This paragraph is about the history of the Maglev train.

 According to Daniel Zhou the first magnetic train was invented by Alfred Zehden of Germany. (http://www.virtualsciencefair.org/2007/zhou7d2/history.html) Is that cool or what?  

       I am going to tell you some more of the history of the maglev train. According to (wikipedia) A maglev, or magnetically levitating train is a form of transportation that suspends, guides and propels vehicles (predominantly trains) using electromagnetic force. This method has the potential to be fast and quiet when compared to wheeled mass transit systems, potentially reaching velocities comparable to turboprop and jet aircraft (900 km/h, 600 mph). The highest recorded speed of a maglev train is 581 km/h (361 mph), achieved in Japan in 2003, 6 km/h higher than the conventional TGV speed record.   (www.Wikipedia.com)

     The maglev train is very awesome it can go up to 361 mph is that amazing or what.  A car cannot even go that fast.   The maglev is very fast and very smooth at the same time. You can drink soda while it is going.


  How it works

    This paragraph is about how the maglev/hovercraft works.  

   The hovercraft works by the fans and the air and the energy that it uses. The hovercrafts fans blow on what ever it is going on and it is like 5-10 mm off the ground. It is very cool how it works.

 According to (wikipedia) they can go on very shallow water, land, mud, sandbanks, debus, swamp, weed, ice and rapids, snow, other. It that amazing or what? They have made a awesome technology that can go on all different things.

    Maglev train

  The maglev train works by a lot of different things. Have you ever played with magnets? You know how they attract and repel? The track is kind of like that. The maglev train is connected to a magnetic track. According to Kevin, Bonsor the magnetic field created in this wire-and-battery experiment is the simple idea behind a maglev train rail system. There are three components to this system:


    * A large electrical power source

    * Metal coils lining a guide way or track

    * Large guidance magnets attached to the underside of the train. (http://www.howstuffworks.com/maglev-train.htm)

   Is that amazing or what. That is really cool that some one had a great idea of the maglev train.  That is very cool how that can work. I think the magnet is very cool. Its cool how the magnet can connect the train to the track and still be very smooth. They are very cool.
