Google Phone vs. iPhone

By Jamaica

Intro

Don’t go out and buy a Razor or Cranberry phone just yet, because the Google phone will be available to the public in 2009. If you would like to learn more, keep reading. This is a report about the iPhone and Google phone. My first paragraph will be about the Google phone. My second paragraph will be about the iPhone. We will just switch of between the Google Phone and iPhone.

What they are

This paragraph is about how big the Google phone is. According to Google-phone .com, The Google Phone is going to be as big or smaller than the iPhone. The iPhone is great but the google phone will be GREATER!! (Google-Phone.com)

This paragraph is about the Google phone’s features. According to Google-phone, the specifications Google has laid out for devices suggest that manufacturers include cameras for photo and video, and built-in Wi-Fi technology to access the Web at hot spots such as airports, coffee shops and hotels. Google suggests the phones could include Global Positioning System (GPS) technology that identifies where people are. (Google-phone.com)

This paragraph is about how fast the google phone will go. According to google-phone, it is recommending that the phones be designed to work on carriers’ fastest networks, known as 3G, to ensure that Web pages can be downloaded quickly. Google suggests the phones could include Global Positioning System technology that identifies where people are. (Google-phone.com)

This paragraph is about the iPhone’s features. According to Wikipedia, the iPhone allows conferencing, call holding, call merging, caller ID, and integration with other cellular network features and iPhone functions. For example, a playing song fades out when the user receives a call. Once the call is ended the music fades back in. Voice dialing is not supported by the iPhone.

The iPhone includes a visual voicemail feature allowing users to view a list of current voicemail messages on-screen without having to call into their voicemail. Unlike most other systems, messages can be listened to and deleted in a non-chronological order by choosing any message from an on-screen list. AT&T, O2, T-Mobile, and Orange modified their voicemail infrastructure to accommodate this new feature designed by Apple. A lawsuit has been filed against Apple and AT&T by Klausner Technologies claiming the iPhone's visual voicemail feature infringes two patents. A ring tone feature was introduced in the United States on September 5, 2007, but is not yet available in all countries where the iPhone has been released. This feature allows users to create custom ring tones from their purchased iTunes music for an additional fee, the same price of a song. The ring tones can be from 3 to 30 seconds in length of any part of a song, can include fading in and out, can pause from half a second to five seconds when looped, and never expire. All customizing can be done in iTunes, and the synced ring tones can also be used for alarms on the iPhone. Custom ring tones can also be created using Apple's Garage Band software 4.1.1 or later (available only on Mac OS X) and third party tools. (Wikipedia.com)

History of Google/ iPhone

This paragraph is about when the Google Phone is coming out. According to Google-phone.com, you shouldn’t dump that new iPhone or old clamshell phone just yet because the Google Phone wouldn’t be available until next year at the earliest, say people familiar with the project. The Mountain View, Calif., company has made it clear. It is serious about developing advanced software and services for cell phones. “What’s interesting about the ads in the mobile phone is that they are twice as profitable or more than the no mobile phone ads because they’re more personal,” said Google Chief in May. (Google-phone.com)

This paragraph is about the when the iPhone came out. According to Wikipedia, apple announced the iPhone in January 2007. The announcement was preceded by rumors and speculations that circulated for several months. The iPhone was introduced in the United States on June 29, 2007, with releases in the United Kingdom, Germany, and France in November 2007, and in Ireland and Austria in March 2008. It will be released in Canada later in 2008. It was named Time magazine's Invention of the Year in 2007. (Wikipedia.com)

This paragraph is about the google phone’s nickname. According to google, the public are calling the google phone, Gphone. The Gphone is like the iPhone, only a lot cooler. That nickname is so catchy. If somebody famous on T.V. told you to go buy a Gphone you would want to because of how cool the nickname is.

This paragraph is about what colors the iPhone comes in. According to Wikipedia, the Apple Company is working on getting the iPhone different colors. As of right now, the iPhone only comes in plain old black. (Wikipedia.com)

A Google spokesman in Boston, declined to comment on a Google phone project, but noted: “We are partnering with almost all of the carriers and manufacturers to get Google search and other Google applications onto their devices and networks.”(Google-phone.com)

This paragraph is about the iPhone. According to Wikipedia, the iPhone is like a little laptop in your pocket. The iPhone was released here last year in January. The iPhone has not yet been released in Canada but it will make its way there within this year. The Apple team is working on improving the iPhones’ image. They are trying to make it a lot quicker and have a cooler design (Wikipedia.com).  I think that the iPhone is awesome because it’s like an iPod and cell phone combined with a calculator, calendar and Internet.

Brief Summary:

People who have seen Google’s prototype devices say they aren’t as revolutionary as the iPhone. One was likened to a slim Nokia Corp. phone with a keyboard that slides out. Another phone format presented by Google looked more like a Treo or a BlackBerry. It’s not clear which manufacturers might build Google wireless devices, though people familiar with the project say LG Electronics Co. of South Korea is one company that has held talks with Google. Google has already lined up a series of hardware component and software partners and signaled to carriers that it’s open to various degrees of cooperation on their part, the people say.

Google phone is coming, believe it or not

Date of retrieval:

April 30, 2008

Brief Summary:

Once again, people familiar with the matter stated that “the Google phone project goes far beyond Google’s existing deals to include its search engine or applications such as Maps on select handsets.”

As if that’s not enough info, the source continue to share that “now [Google] is drafting specifications for phones that can display all of Google’s mobile applications at their best, and it is developing new software to run on them. The company is conducting much of the development work at a facility in Boston, and is working on a sophisticated new web browser for cellphones, people familiar with the plans say.”

Taking a different route than Apple, Google is willing to let manufacturers create devices on a common set of specifications and hope that multiple operators will offer its phone.
