F-15

Intro

Did you know that 900 pounds of grapes could fit in an F-15?  Because if you thought that, then you are wrong!  Because nobody has ever tried it, they have no idea how many pounds of grapes can fit in an F-15.  You see, I just chose a random weight and a random food and asked you if you thought it was true.  If you said yes, but you didnÕt really know that, then you might be called a liar by me and also by others.  If you were really told that by somebody else, then do me a favor and call that particular person a liar.  In this report I will cover some very interesting facts about what an F-15 is, the F-15Õs history, how it works, and the cost of the F-15.  I hope you like my report.

What it is

What is an F-15?  An F-15 is a very advanced fighter jet and it has never lost in combat.  Almost every aspect of the F-15 is computerized.  According to Tom Harris, ŌThe plane is essentially a robot. It has a central computer, which is connected to an array of advanced sensors. Based on input from the inertial guidance system (which contains highly sensitive gyroscopic sensors) and the pilot, the computer activates hydraulic actuators to adjust the wings and rear stabilizers.Ķ (Howstuffworks)

History

Who invented the F-15?  The F-15 was invented by, a man, named McDonnell Douglas (also known as Boeing).  The F-15 was introduced in January 9, 1976.  The F-15 is known as the greatest fighter jet on Earth.

Who uses the F-15?  The F-15 is used in many different countries.  It is used in the U.S. Air Force, the Israeli Air Force, Japan Air Self-Defense Force, and Royal Saudi Air Force.  Like I said before it has a perfect record, it has never lost in combat against enemy forces.  The F-15 has been grounded once for firing at an ally jet.

How it works

How does the F-15 work?  The F-15 Eagle was designed for air-to-air combat, but when the U.S. Air Force needed a bomber to replace the F-111 while the F-117 was being built so they modified the F-15 so it could bomb ground targets making the F-15 Strike Eagle.  Now the F-15 Strike Eagle is an air-to-ground bomber.   The F-15 is an all-weather fighter.  It takes ten seconds to unload a 940 round magazine on an

F-15.  It can fire 6000 rounds a minute.  That is a lot of bullets.

What are the controls like? According to Tom Harris, "The controls are designed with the hands-on throttle and stick system (HOTAS). In the HOTAS system, every switch and button on the controls has a different shape and texture. This way, the pilot can control all the major aspects of the plane without ever looking down into the cockpit."  (Howstuffworks).

How fast can an F-15 go?  The F-15 can go really fast.  It can go up to 1,875 mph, at mach 2.5.  The F-15 can climb 30,000 feet in less than 60 seconds.  But you know what is even cooler?  It can climb more than 98,000 feet in less than 3 minutes.  ThatÕs fast!

Cost

How much does an F-15 cost?  F-15s are very expensive. They could cost up to 29.9 million dollars.  The F-15 A/B can cost up to 27.9 million dollars.  And the F-15 C/D can cost up to 29.9 million dollars, for each unit.

Conclusion

The F-15 is an amazing invention.  And IÕm glad that F-15 could be my topic for this report.  Also if you still think that 900 pounds of grapes could fit in an F-15, you are still wrong.
