the enormous computerized spider web

Intro

What do you do on the internet? Do you research, play games, shop or what? Well I used it for research although I usually play games on it. If there are any questions you have, I hope I will answer it. Some of the stuff I will talk about is what it is, history, and how it works.

What is it

What is the Internet? According to registered users of wikipedia the Internet is a global network of interconnected computers, allows users to share information along multiple channels.  You can access information from lots of different computers.

A computer that connects to the Internet can access information from a lot of other computers by moving information from them to the computer's memory. The same connection allows that computer to send information to other computers on the network. interface with computer networks includes specialized programs for electronic mail, and online chat.

Are the Internet and the World Wide Web the same thing. According to registered users of wikipedia the terms Internet and World Wide Web are often used in every-day speech. However, the Internet and the World Wide Web are not one thing. The Internet is a global information of communications. It is a hardware and software infrastructure that provides connectivity between computers. In contrast, the Web is one of the services communicated via the Internet. It is a collection of interconnected documents and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs.

Is it dangerous? According to ???????? The Internet can be a wonderful resource for kids. They can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers and other kids, and play interactive games. Kids who are old enough to punch in a few letters on the keyboard can literally access the world. But that access can also pose hazards. For example, an 8-year-old might do an online search for "Lego." But with just one missed keystroke, the word "Legs" is entered instead, and the child may be directed to a slew of websites with a focus on legs — some of which may contain pornographic material.

History

When was it made? According to ???????? The development of what we now call the Internet started in 1957 when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the first satellite, beating the United States into space. The powers behind the American military at the time became highly alarmed as this meant that the USSR could theoretically launch bombs into space, and then drop them anywhere on earth. In 1958 the concerns of people in the US military triggered the creation of the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Who invented it? ? According to ???????? Despite what he may have said, Al Gore did not invent the Internet. The Internet was invented in the United States during the late 1950s to the 1970s by a group of researchers and scientists at the newly formed Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) after the former Soviet Union launched Sputnik. Realizing that the United States had suffered a great technological blow by allowing the USSR to hold the first successful satellite launch, ARPA set out to create a brand new technology unlike anything that had ever been done before; and the Internet was the result of their hard work.

How does it work

How does wi-fi work? ? According to???????? Wi-Fi is wireless internet. The technology and scientific workings of it on the electrical level are beyond your current computer knowledge, but the basic concept is that your wireless router in addition to having slots to stick in Ethernet cable like your normal router it also sends out a signal that becomes weaker the farther away you are from your wireless router. The 4 different wireless protocols that have been used are A ( irrelevant at this point due to age) / B (cheap way out, included just in case its needed) / G (What most people use as at this point you are limited by your internet connection and the strength of your router) / N (Corporate lan 's use this when they do not want to wire their office. Completely un-necessary for home use.)

As for your Laptop, it will most likely be Wireless B and G compatible. If you are going to be using it at home and want a good Wireless router purchase a Linksys WRT54G. Make sure to install the latest firmware update on their website, which will help your routers stability and speed.

Outside you are going to encounter unsecured wireless networks you can use, secured ones limited by a WEP/WPA/Other type of encryption, or pay to access Wireless internet.

How does portable internet work? ? According to Diane Dannenfeldt (Modified by Mr. Welch) When most people think about accessing the Internet on the go, they think about using a laptop at a Wi-Fi-enabled coffee shop, or checking e-mail from a smartphone while waiting at the airport.

While these smartphones and PCs work remotely, they're not the only available options. A growing category of devices, called portable Internet devices, combine the portability of smart phones with the functionality of a PC.These devices include ultra mobile PCs (UMPCs) and mobile Internet devices (MIDs). Lighter than a laptop and smarter than a smartphone, portable Internet devices can make Internet access easier, faster and cheaper.

Conclusion

So did that answer all of your questions? Well if you didnÕt maybe you could research it your self. But youÕve learned what it is, the history, and how it works.
