Lasers

This paragraph is about how big the first laser was. According to Mansfield, the first laser was as big as a bed!!! Can you believe that? That is so huge…. Now I want my own, don’t you, I know you do don’t lie.                             The first lasers were hydrogen lasers. They focused light using hydrogen gas. Some took up as much room as a bed. Later, the people who created it developed a ruby focused laser. This allowed the laser to be smaller. The military used these for guidance of weapons. They made artificial ruby lasers and people used them for guns to improve human accuracy in aiming. Today, lots of people use lasers. Just the other day, I used my laser pointer to navigate in pitch dark by making quick left and right to see the distance, shape, and size of every thing ahead.

According to Mansfield, lasers can tell the distance of stuff, such as point a laser at the moon and then get some smart scientist to do something smart and fancy and it can tell us how far away the moon is, in other words….

       At this time we are using for looking at the moon. They place a special mirror in the moon. The mirror is special because it bounces the laser back were it started. It doesn't bounce in an angle. We sand a laser light at the moon. And we can know exactly how far is the moon from here.

This paragraph is about how SMALL The first laser was.   According to Mansfield, the first laser was 400 /200 nanometers. The smallest laser can fit into an average fingernail 2 million times. That’s a lot. It can fit into your fingernail 2 million times! I’m pretty amazed, aren’t you?

         What does LASER stand for?  The acronym LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It is commonly used as a word and written as "laser". The "radiation" portion of the acronym sounds ominous, but radiation just means traveling light or other particles. Light, or photons, are electromagnetic waves including everything from X-rays to radio waves.
